Sylla Music provides West African dance and drum performances and interactive and fun music, drum and dance workshops for adults and children of all skill levels in a variety of settings, from universities and schools to festivals to private events.

ONLINE and in-Person CLASSES

Master percussionist Aboubacar Sylla has been performing professionally for over 25 years, and loves teaching and sharing the music, dance and culture of West Africa throughout the United States and around the world.

Aboubacar Sylla provides classes for beginner to advanced students of balafon, djembe, doundoun, krin and traditional West African dance and singing.

He performs and teaches at schools, universities, festivals, companies and other organizations (scroll down below for a list of some of them).

Aboubacar Sylla - As a master percussionist (balafon, djembe, doundoun, krin, and bote); musician; dancer; choreographer; and teacher, Aboubacar performs and teaches across the U.S. and around the world.

Bramaya - Aboubacar Sylla’s Austin-based West African dance and drum ensemble, Bramaya, combines new musical ideas and traditional West African rhythms. Bramaya [prounounced BRAH-mah-yah] is named in honor of Aboubacar’s father’s village in Guinea.

Performances - Master percussionist Aboubacar Sylla and his dance and drum ensemble, Bramaya, offer group and solo West African music and dance performances. They perform in venues ranging from concert halls to universities to festivals to corporate events to private events.

Workshops - Master percussionist Aboubacar Sylla provides interactive and fun music, drum and dance workshops for adults and children of all skill levels in a variety of settings, from universities and schools to festivals to private events. Aboubacar provides instruction on the balafon, djembe, doundoun, krin and bote as well as in West African dance.
